A LITTLE ABOUT ME
I have knit for most of my life and I fulfilled a dream in 1992 when I opened a studio/yarn shop in New Hampshire. I had the shop for about 10 years, in 2 different locations. Being surrounded by yarns and fibers was like having a little heaven on earth. I enjoyed having my own space to create and the greatest joy was being able to help other knitters, teaching beginners and more advanced knitters all the tips and tricks I had learned over the years.
I have been fortunate to become acquainted with many prominent knitters throughout the country and In Europe and have worked with them testing patterns.
MY WORK
I generally prefer wool for most of my projects. And there is a certain order to it all. I was never an "adventurous" knitter... I seldom was able to just pick up yarn and needles and come up with a spectacular end product. No, my knitting was more orderly than that. As with a food recipe, I liked to knit an item just according to the pattern before I change it. But finally I have broken away from that and have created a few patterns that are for sale here.
I have been a spinner for many years and recently I have started to weave. Do I need more to do with my time!? I already am finding this to be very relaxing and it gives me the opportunity to be creative in a different way and at the same time dive into my stash of yarn and weave it into something interesting.
MY INSPIRATION
You could consider knitting to be almost a way of life for me since I was quite young. I learned to knit at about age 8 and have always liked the way the fibers felt in my hand. My mother taught me to knit. Both she and my grandmother were great inspiration for me. They both did a lot of handwork, as I have over the years, but as my mother once said, "I like it all, but knitting is my favorite.
As an adult I was inspired by the very clever and witty Elizabeth Zimmermann. I think her approach to knitting was brilliant. About the same time I became acquainted with EZ's work, I also found patterns by Carol Anderson. My first pair of socks were knit using Carol's Wisconsin Wintersocks pattern.
Much of my inspiration comes from all the wonderful knitters I have met over the years.
